The Canberra, Jaguar, Lightning and TSR2 are on every local baby’s lips before it comes out of its mothers womb! Every time a politician comes within thirty miles of BA Systems factories, he takes his life in his own hands. And, he has need to. Memories within BAe’s workforce have been handed down from father to son – as far as they are concerned, politician is a dirty word. The British Government – no matter who is in charge – has a dire record in its handling of the British Military Aviation requirement, thinking because it places orders with the company, gives it carte blanch to run its affairs. The only positive grain in this commentary is the worry of losing the skilled workforce – but, that’s a different issue.
