note that Ann Pettifor has no solution – as to propose as viable solution would highlight the bind of the current left – still high on its flurtation with neoliberalism – still in denial about the need for an anti globalist socialism. In the meantime the radical right will continue winning and fascism will gain ground. Only when the left rediscovers that discrimination based upon economic class is as repugnant as discrimination based upon race will it regain a sense of moral purpose and widen its appeal. At present the liberal class has been totally co-opted by international capital and the notion of taking economic equality seriously is a foreign to them as taking racial equality seriously was for southern whites in 60s America. I can feel the horror that anyone should question the hypocrisy of this class as I write this – such is the current willful blindness. I guess only after the current experiment with unregulated global capital finally collapses will there be any thorough reappraisal of what it means to be on the left.
